146th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 19

RECOGNIZING THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF GOLDEY-BEACOM COLLEGE.



WHEREAS, Goldey-Beacom College can trace its origins to September 1, 1886 when H. S. Goldey, a business educator, opened Wilmington Commercial College with five students; and

WHEREAS, in 1900, one of the instructors of Wilmington Commercial College, W. H. Beacom, opened his own school; and

WHEREAS, Mr. W. H. Beacom renamed his school Beacom College in 1929; and

WHEREAS, in 1951, Wilmington Commercial College and Beacom College joined together creating Goldey-Beacom College; and

WHEREAS, Goldey-Beacom College continued to grow in reputation and numbers of students; and

WHEREAS, the educational programs and resources offered to students and others seeking to enhance their employment skills expanded; and

WHEREAS, many of the graduates of Goldey-Beacom College have gone on to establish successful careers and businesses providing job opportunities to Delaware citizens; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees and administration of Goldey-Beacom College have announced a year-long celebration of this milestone in their educational achievements and accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, in celebration of their 125th Anniversary, Goldey-Beacom College has pledged to award scholarships of $1000 to 125 entering undergraduate students for the fall 2011 semester; and

WHEREAS, the State of Delaware recognizes and commends the significant and positive contributions provided by Goldey-Beacom College to countless students over the last 125 years; and

WHEREAS, Goldey-Beacom College continues to expand and keep pace with the latest advances in technology in order to prepare students for the world of work; and

WHEREAS, Goldey-Beacom College has joined with the State of Delaware's other higher educational institutions in maintaining a level of exceptional academic vision;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 146th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that its members do hereby join with the students, alumni, faculty, and trustees of Goldey-Beacom College in proudly acknowledging the dedication, commitment, and unique contributions of this institution of higher education as it celebrates 125 years of successful teaching.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the House of Representatives encourage and support the efforts of Goldey-Beacom College to continue to grow and make a difference in the lives of its students and, in turn, to our State.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that suitably prepared copies of this resolution be presented to the President of Goldey-Beacom College and to the Chairman of its Board of Trustees.
