HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 13

A RESOLUTION OBSERVING FIRST STATE CLEAN-UP WEEK IN DELAWARE AND ENCOURAGING ACTIVITIES TO HELP RID OUR STATE OF TRASH AND DEBRIS.



WHEREAS, Delaware faces ongoing challenges in dealing with widespread litter and illegal dumping; and

WHEREAS, these issues impact every part of our state; and

WHEREAS, this pollution is not only aesthetically unpleasing, but can also present threats to public safety and the environment; and

WHEREAS, the members of the House of Representatives are in a unique position to target these issues in their districts and rally the support of the community to curtail them; and

WHEREAS, Delaware legislators receive a modest annual credit from the Delaware Solid Waste Authority to dispose of trash and debris in their districts; and

WHEREAS, the tourist industry is extremely important to the Delaware economy; and

WHEREAS, the accumulation of trash along Delaware roadways is an eyesore both for Delaware citizens and those who come to visit us; and

WHEREAS, the tourism season is generally considered to start in the month of May.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 148th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that we hereby establish the third full week of May as First State Clean-Up Week.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that each of our members is encouraged to organize and participate in a clean-up event in their district on this week.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that House of Representatives' members and staff are encouraged to collectively coordinate and promote these events, in their districts and statewide.
