HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 9

PROCLAIMING APRIL 13, 2011, "EARLY CHILD CARE AND EDUCATION PROFESSIONALS APPRECIATION DAY".



WHEREAS, one of Delaware's most precious resources is its young children, ages five and under; and

WHEREAS, various national studies have shown that quality early child care and education leads to higher school achievement levels, lower drop-out rates, decreased referrals for special education, fewer behavior problems and cost savings to states and school districts; and

WHEREAS, welfare reform has necessitated the need for quality early child care and education; and

WHEREAS, the National Business Roundtable has published a report urging the federal government and states to make early childhood education a high priority as it tends to increase skilled employment and earnings; and

WHEREAS, early childhood educators and child care professionals often work long hours at pay rates lower than many service industries; and

WHEREAS, early childhood educators and child care professionals are dedicated, tireless workers whose careers enable parents to work and attend school; and

WHEREAS, early childhood educators and child care professionals strengthen communities and support families throughout the State of Delaware;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 146th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that April 13, 2011, be designated "Early Child Care and Education Professionals Appreciation Day" and citizens throughout the State are urged to join in recognizing the work, effort and contribution that these individuals make to improving the quality of life for families in Delaware.


SYNOPSIS

This Concurrent Resolution proclaims April 13, 2011, "Early Child Care and Education Professionals Appreciation Day".Early childhood educators and child care professionals are dedicated, tireless workers who assist in strengthening communities and supporting families throughout the State of Delaware.
