HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 7

RECOGNIZING THE MONTH OF JANUARY 2015 AS "SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH".



WHEREAS, a vital mission of Delaware's public schools is to meet the diverse educational needs of all children and to empower them to become competent, productive contributors to a democratic society and an ever-changing world; and

WHEREAS, public schools are the pathway to the future for the citizens of Delaware; and

WHEREAS, service as a local school board member requires commitment to children and belief that all children can be successful learners and that the best education is tailored to the individual needs of the child; and

WHEREAS, commitment to public education is a priority of the General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, the commitment of funding for public education has been and remains a major expenditure of the Delaware State budget; and

WHEREAS, local funds, local initiatives, and programs are provided through the governing authority of the boards of education; and

WHEREAS, the Delaware Code provides for governance of our schools in the local community and in the charter schools through boards of education; and

WHEREAS, the members of the boards of education of the local school districts and the charter schools of Delaware are unpaid volunteers in their governance responsibilities, and commit countless hours in an effort to best serve the students of our schools; and

WHEREAS, local school board members work closely with parents and guardians, educational professionals, and other community members to create the educational vision for our students; and

WHEREAS, local school board members are responsible for ensuring the structure that provides a solid foundation for our school system; and

WHEREAS, local school board members are strong advocates for public education and are responsible for communicating the needs of the school district to the public and the public's expectations to the district;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 148th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that January 2015 is designated as "School Board Recognition Month", and the people of the State of Delaware are encouraged to observe the occasion with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that will recognize the hard work and dedication of local school board members in working to mold an educational system that meets the needs of both today's and tomorrow's children.
