HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 67
RECOGNIZING APRIL 3RD-9TH AS “NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK” IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, April 3rd-9th is celebrated as National Library Week across the country; and
WHEREAS, Delaware Libraries support student success by fostering strong early literacy skills through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and story times, homework help, test prep, coding instruction, STEM creative labs, and other 21 st century digital literacies that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration; and
WHEREAS, Delaware Libraries support a prosperous economy and help families overcome intergenerational poverty by supporting literacy and digital equity for adults and new arrivals, with access to public computers, WIFI and mobile hotspots, offering workforce skills development, job-search assistance, resources to support small business creation, and offering expert assistance to Delawareans of all ages to grow their passion and skills throughout life; and
WHEREAS, serving as a key part of the social services infrastructure with hundreds of agencies and nonprofits, Delaware Libraries provide a vital service to Delawareans in need, helping to connect them with teleservices, health information, financial assistance, and more, thereby helping Delawareans lead longer, productive, and fulfilling lives; and
WHEREAS, Delaware Libraries provide flexible spaces that support Delaware arts and culture through performance spaces, display spaces, creative databases, and books that help Delawareans with their creative pursuits; and
WHEREAS, in a world undergoing constant change, Delaware Libraries provide enduring connections to the past and future of our communities, preserving our local history and stories for future generations; and
WHEREAS, there are over 70 public, academic, special, and school libraries in the Delaware Library Consortium sharing over 3 million print and digital books and more, that collectively serve all Delawareans; and
WHEREAS, the Delaware Library Association, established in 1934, has continuously worked on behalf of Delaware librarians for 88 years to carry out a mission of developing and improving library and information services for all Delawareans.
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 151st General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that April 3rd-9th, 2022 is celebrated as “National Library Week,” State Legislature encourage all Delawareans to get a library card, and make use of the resources, programs, and services available to them through their libraries and thank library workers for helping Delaware to be a thriving, educated and prosperous state.

This Concurrent Resolution designates the week of April 3rd-9th, 2022, as “National Library Week” and calls upon Delawareans to support libraries.
