RECOGNIZING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, 2010, AS "DWARFISM
AWARENESS MONTH" IN THE STATE OF |
WHEREAS,
there are an estimated 30,000 people in the
WHEREAS, there are more than 200 distinct forms of dwarfism and skeletal dysplasia; and
WHEREAS, people with dwarfism are generally not taller than 4'10" at adult height and the typical height range is between 2'8" and 4'5"; and
WHEREAS, eighty percent (80%) of people with dwarfism have average-height parents and siblings; and
WHEREAS, Little People of America, a national support organization for people with dwarfism and their families, has approximately 6500 members throughout the United States, with 70 chapters active in all 50 states; and
WHEREAS, Little People of America provides support, education, educational scholarships and community outreach for the benefit of people with dwarfism; and
WHEREAS, Little People of America has declared October to be �National Dwarfism Awareness Month' in order to raise positive awareness and increase opportunities for people with dwarfism, and to address common misconceptions regarding dwarfism; and
WHEREAS, the General Assembly recognizes that people with dwarfism are no different of any other person and that little people are mothers, fathers, children, students, teachers, business professionals, doctors, engineers and artists; and
WHEREAS, the General Assembly believes that recognizing the month of October, 2010, as "Dwarfism Awareness Month" in this State will recognize the many contributions made by people with dwarfism throughout this State and increase public knowledge about little people.
NOW, THEREFORE:

IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 145th General Assembly of
the State of

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, upon passage, a suitably prepared and duly
authenticated copy of this concurrent resolution be forwarded to Lois G. Lamb,
President of Little People of America, Inc., at the organization's national
headquarters, 250 El Camino Real,
