145th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 34

CELEBRATING THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SISTER STATE-PROVINCE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE STATE OF DELAWARE AND THE PROVINCE OF TAIWAN.


WHEREAS, ten years ago, the State of Delaware and the Province of Taiwan developed a Sister State-Province Agreement; and

WHEREAS, in 1999, three members of the Delaware General Assembly, Representatives Joseph G. DiPinto, Roger R. Roy, and Robert F. Gilligan, initiated the establishment of a trade office in Taipei, Taiwan; and

WHEREAS, Taiwan continues to be one of the top ten markets worldwide for Delaware exports; and

WHEREAS, a continued relationship of trade and friendship will benefit the people of Taiwan and the people of Delaware; and

WHEREAS, the Sister State-Province relationship between Delaware and Taiwan has promoted, and will continue to promote, increased trade, tourism, and communications, as well as cultural, educational, professional, commercial and scientific exchanges between the two communities.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 145th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that its members recognize the important relationship and friendship between the State of Delaware and the Province of Taiwan.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring therein, support and encourage maintaining the Sister State-Province relationship between the State of Delaware and the Province of Taiwan.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the relationship between the State of Delaware and the Province of Taiwan will continue to foster mutually beneficial exchanges and strengthen each community culturally, economically and intellectually.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitably prepared copy of this Resolution shall be presented to Mr. Jason C. Yuan, the Representative on behalf of the Taipei Economic & Cultural Representative Office in the United States, during the Taiwanese delegation's visit to the State of Delaware on April 20, 2010.


SYNOPSIS

This concurrent resolution celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Sister State-Province relationship between the State of Delaware and the Province of Taiwan.
