HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 16

RECOGNIZING THE COMMANDER, OFFICERS, AND CREW OF THE USS DELAWARE, SSN 791, IN ADVANCE OF THE FORTHCOMING COMMISSIONING OF THE VESSEL BY THE UNITED STATES NAVY.

WHEREAS, the USS Delaware, SSN 791, will become the 18th Virginia-class fast attack submarine to enter the naval fleet of the United States upon its commissioning, weighing 7,800 tons and measuring 377 feet in length; and

WHEREAS, she will be the 7th warship of the U.S. Navy to bear the name of the First State, succeeding the venerable battleship USS Delaware, BB-28, which served with distinction through World War I and was decommissioned in 1923; and

WHEREAS, The official sponsor of the new USS Delaware is Dr. Jill Biden, a proud Delawarean, educator, author, and advocate for military service members and their families, both active-duty and retired; and

WHEREAS, The sailors who serve aboard the USS Delaware will become ambassadors to the world for the state of Delaware and its citizens, making history as they sail the globe under the motto “First Defenders of Liberty”; and

WHEREAS, The courage of the 136 plankowner sailors of the USS Delaware and their service to our nation is to be commended by all Delawareans, with our deepest appreciation;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 150th General Assembly, the Senate concurring therein, that Commander Brian Hogan, Commanding Officer; Lieutenant Commander Joshua Hodge, Executive Officer; and Master Chief Richard Heering, Chief of Boat; along with all the officers and crew of USS Delaware, SSN 791, are hereby recognized for their service aboard the newest vessel to bear the name of the First State; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 150th General Assembly, the Senate concurring therein, wishes the officers and crew of the USS Delaware highest congratulations in advance of the commissioning of their vessel.

SYNOPSIS

This Concurrent Resolution recognizes the officers and crew of the new USS Delaware submarine, which is slated for commissioning by the U.S. Navy.
