SYNOPSIS

This Act amends the contract nonrenewal procedures and hearing procedures for Department of Education employees. For employees who have a right to a hearing upon contract nonrenewal or termination, the Delaware Code currently imposes no deadline for the employee to seek that hearing. This Act would impose a time limitation on the employee to seek a hearing within 15 days after receipt of notice of nonrenewal or termination to ensure that such hearings can be conducted in a timely fashion and before an employee's contract expires. The Act also revises the notice period for nonrenewal of contracts from six months to four months to ensure that a non-renewed employee does not serve for a two-month period beyond the term of their contract and into a new fiscal year.
