Relative to the City of Lancaster


LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


SR 62, Wilk.

WHEREAS, The City of Lancaster has forged a number of innovative and successful public-private partnerships to implement progressive alternative energy initiatives and projects; and
WHEREAS, The City of Lancaster has been recognized and honored regionally, nationally, and internationally as an exemplary municipal leader in the field of alternative energy; and
WHEREAS, The City of Lancaster has established itself as a global leader in implementing partnerships and initiatives to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change; and
WHEREAS, The City of Lancaster was the first city in the nation to facilitate the development of affordable solar residential communities; and
WHEREAS, The City of Lancaster was also the first city in the nation to mandate minimum solar power requirements for all new construction residential communities; and
WHEREAS, The City of Lancaster is home to the North American electric vehicle manufacturing plant of Build Your Dreams, Inc., the premier manufacturer of electric buses; and
WHEREAS, The City of Lancaster has worked closely with the Antelope Valley Transit Authority to ensure that north Los Angeles County will soon have the first 100 percent electric bus fleet in the nation; and
WHEREAS, The City of Lancaster was the first municipality in California to become a community choice aggregator, as well as to form its own utility service provider, Lancaster Choice Energy; and
WHEREAS, The City of Lancaster proactively formed a hybrid joint powers authority, the California Choice Energy Authority, to assist other municipalities with achieving their community choice aggregation goals; and
WHEREAS, The City of Lancaster is designated as an alternative energy research center of excellence for California and serves as a model for the future of alternative energy and utility services in the state; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the Senate recognizes the City of Lancaster for developing and implementing its community choice aggregator program; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
