WHEREAS, Access to quality, affordable housing is fundamental to creating healthy, safe, and sustainable communities in the State of California, supporting the California dream; and
WHEREAS, Rising housing costs have displaced longtime residents, forced families into overcrowded conditions, and contributed to homelessness, threatening the racial and economic diversity of the State of California; and
WHEREAS, Affordable housing with wraparound services is a key solution to homelessness and is essential to the well-being of seniors, families, youth, veterans, and individuals with disabilities or special needs in the State of California; and
WHEREAS, It is necessary for the State of California to allocate the resources necessary to produce and preserve affordable housing, including an affordable housing bond; and
WHEREAS, Affordable housing organizations recognize May as Affordable Housing Month, underscoring the urgent need for action by the state to address the growing housing crisis; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the Senate proclaims May 2025 as Affordable Housing Month and affirms its commitment to supporting affordable housing solutions to preserve the California dream; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
