Relative to National Hospital Week.

SCR 71, Allen. National Hospital Week.

This measure would designate the week of May 11, 2025, to May 17, 2025, inclusive, as National Hospital Week in California.

WHEREAS, California is home to more than 450 hospitals in rural, suburban, and urban areas, that are a source of hope and healing for all in need, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year round; and

WHEREAS, California hospitals treat all who come through their doors and are havens that never close for those who need health care services; and

WHEREAS, California hospitals provide life-saving and life-changing care by saving the lives of extremely premature babies, extending the lives of cancer patients and others, and improving the lives of those experiencing traumatic illness and bodily harm; and

WHEREAS, Hospitals treat one in four Californians every year, including 15 million visits to emergency departments for critical health care services; and

WHEREAS, Hospitals deliver 400,000 babies every year in California, ensuring that birthing parents and babies are safe and cared for before, during, and after delivery; and

WHEREAS, California has the fourth highest life expectancy in the nation, with hospitals playing a critical role in the state’s health care system; and

WHEREAS, Hospitals are major economic drivers that are responsible for one million jobs and $300,000,000,000 in economic output in California; and

WHEREAS, Hospitals, which provide safe havens for people in need of emergency care during natural disasters, were at the forefront of the disaster response during the devastating fires this year in Los Angeles; and

WHEREAS, Hospitals annually provide $10,000,000,000 in support to vulnerable populations in their communities through disease detection and prevention, wellness programs, charity care, and partnerships with community nonprofit organizations; and

WHEREAS, Hospitals are a key partner for clinics, doctors, Planned Parenthood, and others; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby designates the week of May 11, 2025, to May 17, 2025, inclusive, as National Hospital Week in California; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
