   Relative to the William L. Cavala Legislative Office Building.

   SCR 62, as introduced, Steinberg. Legislative Office Building.
   This measure would provided that the Legislative Office Building
located at 1020 N Street in Sacramento be named the William L. Cavala
Legislative Office Building.
   Fiscal committee: no.



   WHEREAS, William Lester "Bill" Cavala was a fixture in the Capitol
community for over 30 years, serving as a senior aide to legislative
leaders and a mentor to many; and
   WHEREAS, Bill Cavala was born in Sacramento and raised in Oakland,
delving into politics at an early age, including during high school
where he joined the Junior Statesmen, an organization dedicated at
teaching young people about politics; and
   WHEREAS, He earned his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and
Doctorate degrees in Political Science from the University of
California at Berkeley, and, during the 1970s, taught political
science at the university while at the same time working for the
Legislature; and
   WHEREAS, His legislative service began in 1971, when he joined the
staff of Assembly Member Robert Crown, and he continued his service
for Assembly Members Ken Meade, John Miller, and Bill Lockyer; and
   WHEREAS, In 1981, Bill Cavala left academia to work for Assembly
Speaker Willie Brown, continuing his service for Speaker Brown
through 1995, then working for Assembly Minority Leader Richard Katz,
and Assembly Speakers Cruz Bustamante, Antonio Villaraigosa, Robert
Hertzberg, and Herb Wesson, and serving as a Deputy Director and
Director in the Speaker's Office of Member Services; and
   WHEREAS, Bill Cavala is remembered and respected by those on both
sides of the aisle, and was highly regarded for his institutional
knowledge and skill regarding legislative issues, as well as his
kindness, humility, and professionalism; now, therefore, be it
   Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
thereof concurring, That the Legislative Office Building located at
1020 N Street in Sacramento be named the William L. Cavala
Legislative Office Building; and be it further
   Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this
resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
