SCR 44, Pan. Safe Jobs for Youth Month: Young Worker Bill of Rights.
This measure would recognize the month of May as Safe Jobs for Youth Month.

WHEREAS, A productive, competitively skilled, and healthy workforce is necessary for the well-being of our society, and a job can be a valuable part of a young person’s learning and development to help achieve both individual and community goals; and
WHEREAS, Our youth represent the future of our community, and we have an obligation to create both employment opportunities where young people can learn skills and habits essential for their careers and jobs that are also safe and healthy; and
WHEREAS, Many young people will be heading into part-time and summer jobs and may not be aware of the need for work permits, of potential hazards on their jobs, or of the labor laws designed to protect them in the workplace; and
WHEREAS, The California Partnership for Young Worker Health and Safety, representing educational institutions, government agencies, safety professionals, parent groups, teachers, and employers, was created pursuant to Section 6359 of the Labor Code to promote the importance of young workers’ safety at work among teens, schools, families, and businesses; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature recognizes the month of May as Safe Jobs for Youth Month; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the Governor, the President pro Tempore of the Senate, the Speaker of the Assembly, each Senator and Assembly Member, and to the author for appropriate distribution.
