   Relative to Classified School Employee Week.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   SCR 42, as introduced, Negrete McLeod. Classified School Employee
Week.
   This measure would recognize the week of May 17 to May 23 2009, as
Classified School Employee Week, and encourage the public to give
recognition to classified school employees for their numerous
contributions and invaluable services to California's public schools
and community colleges.
   Fiscal committee: no.



   WHEREAS, The week of May 17 to May 23, 2009, has been declared
Classified School Employee Week in recognition of the invaluable
services classified school employees provide to California public
schools and community colleges; and
   WHEREAS, Classified school employees are education support
professionals who continually strive for excellence in areas relative
to the education community; and
   WHEREAS, Classified school employees contribute to the
establishment and promotion of a positive instructional environment
as paraeducators and library aids; and
   WHEREAS, Classified school employees also provide other essential
educational services, such as transportation, facilities maintenance
and operations, food and support services, and health care, and they
play an essential role in providing for the welfare and safety of
California's public school children and community college students;
and
   WHEREAS, The people of California join with the California
Teachers Association, California Federation of Teachers, the
California School Employees Association, and Service Employees
International Union in acknowledging and recognizing classified
school employees for their outstanding contributions to quality
education across the state; now, therefore, be it
   Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
thereof concurring, That the Legislature of the State of California
encourages the public to give recognition to classified school
employees for their numerous contributions and invaluable services to
California's public schools and community colleges; and be it
further
   Resolved, That the week of May 17 to May 23, 2009, be recognized
as Classified School Employee Week; and be it further
   Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this
resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
