WHEREAS, The National Day of Prayer is observed each year on the first Thursday of May as a time when Americans are invited to come together in prayer and seek God’s guidance for our communities, our state, and our nation; and
WHEREAS, From the founding of the United States, national leaders have acknowledged the importance of prayer and have called upon the country to turn to God during moments of challenge and uncertainty; and
WHEREAS, Faith has been a defining influence throughout American history, shaping the values, perseverance, and unity of the American people; and
WHEREAS, The United States has consistently affirmed that prayer is a source of strength in both public and private life, reminding the nation that reliance on God has guided Americans through times of trial and triumph; and
WHEREAS, California’s diverse faith communities continue to strengthen neighborhoods by supporting families, caring for the vulnerable, and fostering a spirit of service and hope; and
WHEREAS, The National Day of Prayer encourages individuals and communities to set aside time to seek God’s direction for the future of our state and nation and to pray for the well-being of those who serve in positions of leadership and public trust; and
WHEREAS, This day provides all Californians with an opportunity to recognize the nation’s enduring ties to faith and to ask for God’s protection, wisdom, and peace; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby recognizes May 7, 2026, as the National Day of Prayer; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
