The Purple Heart Community.
This measure would designate a specified portion of State Route 162 in the County of Glenn as the Purple Heart Community. The measure would request that the Department of Transportation determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs.

WHEREAS, As a designated Purple Heart City, the City of Willows takes great pride in honoring and supporting our nation’s veterans, particularly those who have been wounded or have made the ultimate sacrifice in combat; and
WHEREAS, The City of Willows and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1770 / Auxiliary support the mission of the Military Order of the Purple Heart to promote patriotism and ensure that our combat wounded veterans are never forgotten; and
WHEREAS, A public display acknowledging the City of Willows as the Purple Heart Community will serve as a visible tribute to these courageous men and women while reinforcing the city’s deep appreciation for their service and sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, This display will not only recognize the sacrifices of Purple Heart recipients, but will also serve to educate residents and visitors about the significance of the Purple Heart and the brave individuals who have earned this distinguished honor; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby designates the portion of State Route 162, from postmile 065.381 to postmile 066.792, in the County of Glenn as the Purple Heart Community; and be it further
Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested to determine the cost of appropriate signs, consistent with the signing requirements for the state highway system, showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the Director of Transportation and to the author for appropriate distribution.
