   An act to add Section 14631 to the Government Code, relating to
the State Capitol.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   SB 963, as introduced, Strickland. State Capitol: Ronald Reagan
Memorial.
   Existing law prescribes various duties for the Department of
General Services in connection with development and maintenance of
the park around the State Capitol Building. Existing law authorizes
the construction of various memorials in the Capitol Historic Region.

   This bill would authorize the construction of a memorial statue to
Ronald Reagan in the Capitol Historic Region. The bill would require
that the planning, construction, and maintenance of the memorial be
funded through private donations and would prohibit state moneys from
being used for these purposes.
   Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes.
State-mandated local program: no.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  SECTION 1.  Section 14631 is added to the Government Code, to read:

   14631.  (a) The construction of a memorial statue to Ronald Reagan
in the Capitol Historic Region is hereby authorized.
   (b) The planning, construction, and maintenance of the memorial
shall be funded through private donations and no state moneys shall
be used for these purposes.
