BILL NUMBER: SB 784	INTRODUCED
	BILL TEXT

INTRODUCED BY Senator Allen

                        FEBRUARY 27, 2015

An act to amend Section 14217 of the Elections Code, relating to
elections.

	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

SB 784, as introduced, Allen. Provisional ballots.
Existing law provides that a voter is entitled to cast a
provisional ballot if his or her qualification or entitlement to vote
cannot be immediately established. If a precinct board is unable to
find a voter's name on the index of registration on the day of an
election, existing law requires the precinct board to inform the
voter that he or she may cast a provisional ballot and, if the voter
elects to do so, furnish the voter with the provisional ballot.
This bill would make a technical, nonsubstantive change to those
provisions.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. Section 14217 of the Elections Code is amended to read:

14217. If the precinct board is unable to find a voter's name
upon on the index of registration, it
shall inform the voter that he or she may cast a provisional ballot
and the procedure for doing so. If the voter elects to cast a
provisional ballot, the precinct board shall furnish the voter with a
provisional ballot, in accordance with Section 14310.
