   An act to amend Section 16640 of the Penal Code, relating to
firearms.



	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   SB 311, as introduced, Anderson. Firearms.
   Existing law defines the term "handgun" for specified provisions
of law to mean any pistol, revolver, a firearm capable of being
concealed upon the person.
   This bill would make a technical, nonsubstantive change to the
provisions defining the term "handgun."
   Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  SECTION 1.  Section 16640 of the Penal Code is amended to read:
   16640.  (a) As used in this part,  the term  "handgun"
means any pistol, revolver, or firearm capable of being concealed
upon the person.
   (b) Nothing shall prevent a device defined as a "handgun" from
also being found to be a short-barreled rifle or a short-barreled
shotgun.
