CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE— 2019–2020 REGULAR SESSION

Senate Bill
No. 1193

Introduced by Senator Lena Gonzalez

February 20, 2020

An act to repeal Section 53315 of the Education Code, relating to pupil instruction.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

SB 1193, as introduced, Lena Gonzalez. Pupil instruction: computer science.
Existing law, which becomes inoperative on July 31, 2020, and is repealed as of January 1, 2021, requires the Superintendent of Public Instruction to convene a computer science strategic implementation advisory panel with a specified membership to develop and submit recommendations for a computer science strategic implementation plan to the Superintendent, the State Board of Education, and the Legislature.
This bill would repeal the statute that makes these provisions inoperative and repeals them, thereby making these provisions operative indefinitely on and after January 1, 2021.
Vote: MAJORITY   Appropriation: NO   Fiscal Committee: YES   Local Program: NO

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.

Section 53315 of the Education Code is repealed.
53315.

This chapter shall become inoperative on July 31, 2020, and, as of January 1, 2021, is repealed, unless a later enacted statute, that becomes operative on or before January 1, 2021, deletes or extends the dates on which it becomes inoperative and is repealed.
