Relative to Family History Month.


LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


HR 77, as introduced, Mathis.

WHEREAS, On September 26, 2001, the United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution designating the month of October as Family History Month, stating, “it is the family, striving for a future of opportunity and hope, that reflects our Nation’s belief in community, stability, and love”; and
WHEREAS, Family continues to symbolize a reliable source of strength that will help preserve and protect the future of American life, liberty, and prosperity; and
WHEREAS, For generations, families from every continent have journeyed to the United States in search for growth, opportunity, and a brighter future for themselves and their descendants; and
WHEREAS, Decade after decade, the arrival of families transformed America into the melting pot that it is today, characterized by continued efforts to strengthen diversity, inclusivity, and tolerance; and
WHEREAS, Around the world, the collection, preservation, and exchange of genealogies, personal documents, and memorabilia that detail family histories continue to increase; and
WHEREAS, American libraries, databases, and archives remain home to timeless records and histories that tell the stories of our nation, our states, our communities, and our citizens; and
WHEREAS, Growing interests in genealogy and family heritages reflect a willingness to develop a connection with the past, honor legacies, and learn about those who made ultimate sacrifices to live the “American Dream”; and
WHEREAS, The ability of citizens to access and share family histories and heritages contributes toward efforts to strengthen inclusivity, diversity, and tolerance; and
WHEREAS, Each family has created its own special legacy that is honored and carried on by its descendants; and
WHEREAS, To honor those legacies, we must pay homage to those who came before us and sacrificed so much to establish a new life in this nation; and
WHEREAS, The participation of elected officials at all levels in facilitating access to family history records in archives and libraries is an important factor in the successful perception of nationwide commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and tolerance; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly proclaims the month of October 2021 as Family History Month; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
