   Relative to the 361st Infantry Regiment Day.

             HOUSE OR SENATE RESOLUTIONS DO NOT CONTAIN A DIGEST



   WHEREAS, The 361st Infantry was organized on September 4, 1917, as
an element of the 91st Division and was formed into a Regimental
Combat Team. On September 11, 1918, the 361st Infantry Regimental
Combat Team became the first regiment of the 91st Division to enter
combat in World War I, serving valiantly under treacherous conditions
on the fronts and receiving battle streamers for Ypres-Lys,
Muse-Argonne, and Lorraine. The 361st Infantry Regimental Combat Team
received numerous decorations from Belgium, France, and the United
States of America, including the Congressional Medal of Honor; and
   WHEREAS, After being demobilized in April 1919, the 361st Infantry
was reconstituted in June 1921 and was allotted to the Organized
Reserves in Sacramento, California, as an element of the 91st
Division. The 361st Infantry was ordered into active military service
on August 15, 1942, at Camp White, Oregon, where it underwent
rigorous training until November 1943; and
   WHEREAS, The 361st Infantry participated in the initial landing on
the beach of Anzio, Italy, on June 1, 1944, and distinguished itself
throughout the Italian campaign, receiving numerous commendations
and awards, including a Presidential Unit Citation and campaign
streamers for Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and the Po Valley; and
   WHEREAS, The 361st Infantry was deactivated at Camp Rucker,
Alabama, on November 13, 1945, and was organized and redesignated the
Organized Reserve Corps in 1948 with headquarters in California
where it continues to serve our beloved country; and
   WHEREAS, The former members of the 361st Infantry have aided in
maintaining the honor, integrity, and supremacy of the country,
holding in remembrance their common cause to uphold the Constitution
and laws of the United States of America. The former members of the
361st Infantry encourage in all people the spirit of understanding,
which shall help guard against future wars, promote charitable
activity directed to members or their survivors who may be in need,
and preserve the memories of our military activities; and
   WHEREAS, On Saturday, September 7, 2013, the 361st Infantry
Association will hold their 24th annual reunion and memorial ceremony
in Sacramento, California, in the 52nd year of the organization;
now, therefore, be it
   Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the
Assembly proclaims September 7, 2013, as 361st Infantry Regiment Day
in California; and be it further
   Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of
this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
