AJR 11, as introduced, Davies. Public social services: Medicare and social security.
This measure would oppose cuts and measures to privatize social security and Medicare and call on the state’s Representatives in Congress to vote against cuts and measures to privatize and to support legislation to improve and expand these systems to strengthen their protections. The measure would call on the President of the United States to not cut these programs, to veto any legislation to do so, and to work with Congress to expand and improve these programs.

WHEREAS, Since 1965, Medicare has been, and continues to be, essential for senior citizens of the United States; and
WHEREAS, Since 1935, social security has been, and continues to be, essential for senior citizens of the United States; and
WHEREAS, Our social security and Medicare systems are fundamental to protecting against risks to which all Californians are subject; and
WHEREAS, In 2022, there were over 64,000,000 citizens of the United States who were Medicare and social security beneficiaries, with approximately 10,000 new eligible enrollees each day; and
WHEREAS, Medicare is an invaluable program to older Americans and Americans with certain health conditions, as it provides them with coverage for medical purposes; and
WHEREAS, Many social security and Medicare beneficiaries rely on these critical benefits to make ends meet each month; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly and the Senate of the State of California, jointly, That the Legislature opposes cuts and measures to privatize social security and Medicare and calls on our state’s Representatives in Congress to vote against cuts and measures to privatize and to support legislation to improve and expand these systems to strengthen their protections; and be it further
Resolved, That the Legislature calls on the President of the United States to not cut these programs, to veto any legislation to do so, and to work with Congress to expand and improve these programs; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the President and Vice President of the United States, to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to the Majority Leader of the Senate, and to each Senator and Representative from California in the Congress of the United States.
