Relative to California Fairground Appreciation Month.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
ACR 186, Bigelow. California Fairground Appreciation Month.
This measure would designate June 2016 as California Fairground
Appreciation Month and commend the directors, volunteers, staff,
local agencies, nonprofits, and Californians who support and attend
fairground events.
WHEREAS, California's 76 fairgrounds represent an important public
asset, providing public recreation, education, and community unity
to more than 20 million Californians every year; and
WHEREAS, California's fairgrounds provide vital emergency services
as fire camps, disaster relief centers, and training and staging
areas; and
WHEREAS, California's fairgrounds accommodate both those actively
involved in emergency relief efforts and those displaced by disasters
and serve as a temporary home; and
WHEREAS, More than one dozen fairgrounds served in emergency
response capacities in 2015 alone; and
WHEREAS, California's fairgrounds serve as year-round centers for
economic activities, generating millions of dollars in tax and
employment income for the state and local governments; and
WHEREAS, California's fairgrounds provide a unique and
unparalleled platform for nonprofit events and charitable efforts
that in turn provide a wide variety of important social services,
including food drives, blood drives, pet adoptions, scholarships, and
educational activities; and
WHEREAS, California's fairgrounds promote the Golden State's proud
agricultural history and foster the education of future generations
about the connection between food and farming; and
WHEREAS, California's fairgrounds are gathering places for the
state's diverse ethnic populations, veterans groups, and other
organizations; and
WHEREAS, California's fairgrounds promote the conservation of
natural resources, including water, and the importance of water to
California farms and cities; and
WHEREAS, California's fairgrounds are supported by thousands of
volunteers from the boardroom to the parking lot and livestock barns;
and
WHEREAS, The 76 fairgrounds within California deserve great
respect and admiration for their services to California; now,
therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby designates the month
of June 2016 as California Fairground Appreciation Month in
appreciation for the services given to California by the 76
fairgrounds in the state; and be it further
Resolved, That the Legislature commends the thousands of
directors, volunteers, staff, local agencies, and nonprofits, as well
as the millions of Californians, who support and attend fairground
events year round; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of
this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
