ACR 164, Cunningham. Career Technical Education Month.
This measure would declare the month of February as Career Technical Education Month in the State of California.
Fiscal Committee: NO  

WHEREAS, For many Californians, career technical education is the lifeline to escape poverty, to move up the economic ladder, and to achieve success; and
WHEREAS, According to the Association for Career and Technical Education, high school pupils who participate in career technical education programs are more engaged, perform better in high school, and graduate from high school at higher rates than high school pupils who don’t; and
WHEREAS, Career and technical student organizations such as SkillsUSA, the Distributive Education Clubs of America Inc; the National FFA Organization, and HOSA-Future Health Professionals give pupils opportunities to work closely with employers, to provide services to communities, and to participate in national competitions in various industries with industry judges; and
WHEREAS, According to the California Manufacturers and Technology Association, over the next decade, nearly 3.5 million United States manufacturing jobs will need to be filled and a skills gap is expected to result in 2 million of those jobs going unfilled; and
WHEREAS, Jobs and careers in the trade industry on average pay higher than jobs that require a college diploma; and
WHEREAS, Career technical education is needed for California’s pupils, workforce development, and present and future economy; and
WHEREAS, Continuing to fund career technical education programs is a valuable investment in our collective future; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby designates the month of February as Career Technical Education Month in the State of California; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
