Relative to Equal Pay for Women Day.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
ACR 155, as introduced, Skinner. Equal Pay for Women Day.
This measure would proclaim April 20, 2010, as Equal Pay for Women
Day in California.
Fiscal committee: no.
WHEREAS, Women now make up 50% of the American workforce but, on
average, they earn only 77 cents for every dollar earned by men; and
WHEREAS, Women must work 15 months and 20 days, until April 20, to
earn as much as men did in the 12 months preceding December 31; and
WHEREAS, Women working one year out of college already earn less
than male colleagues in the same field with the same degree; and
WHEREAS, Women over the age of 66 receive lower Social Security
and pension benefits than men and are twice as likely as men to be
poor; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
thereof concurring, That April 20, 2010, is declared Equal Pay for
Women Day; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of
this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
