ACR 136, Harabedian. Engineers Week.

This measure would recognize the week of February 22, 2026, to February 28, 2026, as Engineers Week.

WHEREAS, The week of February 22, 2026, to February 28, 2026, is being observed by state and national engineering organizations as Engineers Week, during which time a number of observances will take place in California to highlight the contributions engineers have made to society and inspire future generations of innovators; and

WHEREAS, Engineers Week celebrates its rich history as one of the largest science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) outreach events of the year with the 2026 theme “Transform Your Future,” underscoring how engineers shape communities, opportunities, and the world we live in; and

WHEREAS, Engineers Week promotes recognition among parents, teachers, and students of the importance of a technical education and a high level of mathematics, science, and technology literacy, motivating youth to pursue engineering careers and participate in a diverse and innovative engineering workforce; and

WHEREAS, California leads the world in STEM education, inspiring and preparing students to seize opportunities in a global society through innovation, inquiry, collaboration, and creative problem solving; and

WHEREAS, According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, architecture and engineering occupations are projected to see robust demand, with approximately 186,500 job openings each year on average through the decade, reflecting both growth and the need to replace workers who leave the workforce, and median wages for engineers remain significantly above the national average; and

WHEREAS, Engineers practice in a number of important specialties, including civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, geotechnical, chemical, control systems, fire protection, industrial, petroleum, environmental, and traffic engineering, providing a complete range of engineering services to both the private and public sectors in California; and

WHEREAS, Professional engineers are leaders in the development of efficient, environmentally sustainable, and technologically advanced designs that enhance water quality, wastewater management, flood control, infrastructure resiliency, seismic safety, hazardous site remediation, and transportation systems, including highways, railways, waterways, and airports; and

WHEREAS, California’s engineers apply their unique knowledge and skill to help communities grow, thrive, and remain safe, and are truly dedicated to building a better California; and

WHEREAS, It is appropriate at this time to recognize the contributions of engineering professionals to the betterment of humankind; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That in recognition of the services bestowed upon the citizens of the State of California by engineers, the Legislature hereby recognizes the week of February 22, 2026, to February 28, 2026, as Engineers Week; and be it further

Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
