BILL NUMBER: AB 981 INTRODUCED
BILL TEXT
INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Mayes
FEBRUARY 26, 2015
An act to amend Section 527 of the Business and Professions Code,
relating to healing arts.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
AB 981, as introduced, Mayes. Eyeglasses.
Existing law prohibits an optician, optometrist, or physician and
surgeon from dispensing, prescribing, or selling eyeglasses to a
person who's sight is limited to one eye, or to specified public
safety personnel who would normally wear those eyeglasses for on-duty
employment, unless the eyeglasses are made of specified materials to
resist shattering and the frames are nonflammable. An optician,
optometrist, or physician and surgeon who violates these provisions
is subject to discipline by his or her accrediting board.
This bill would make a technical, nonsubstantive change to these
provisions.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 527 of the Business and Professions Code is
amended to read:
527. Any dispensing optician, optometrist, or physician and
surgeon who violates this article is subject to disciplinary action
by the board which issues his or her certificate to engage
in practice.
