An act to add Section 8386.7 to the Public Utilities Code, relating to wildfire.


LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


AB 956, as introduced, Flora. Wildfire mitigation plans: fire retardants.
Existing law requires the State Fire Marshal to establish minimum standard requirements and adopt rules and regulations to regulate the manufacture, sale, and application of flame-retardant chemicals.
Existing law requires electrical corporations and local publicly owned electric utilities to annually prepare wildfire mitigation plans, as specified.
This bill would expressly authorize a wildfire mitigation plan to include the use of fire-retardant chemicals approved by the State Fire Marshal on a planned basis for wildfire mitigation and risk management.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 Section 8386.7 is added to the Public Utilities Code, to read:

8386.7.
 Wildfire mitigation plans prepared pursuant to Section 8386 or 8387 may include the use of fire-retardant chemicals approved by the State Fire Marshal on a planned basis for wildfire mitigation and risk management.
