Assembly Bill No. 741

Introduced by Assembly Member Cervantes

An act to amend Section 8112 of the Health and Safety Code, relating to cemeteries. An act relating to community colleges.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

AB 741, as amended, Cervantes. Public cemetery districts. Community colleges: veterans.
Existing law establishes the California Community Colleges, under the administration of the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges, as one of the segments of public postsecondary education in this state. Existing law establishes community college districts throughout the state, and authorizes these districts to provide instruction at the campuses they operate.
This bill would express the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation creating an articulation platform for the California Community Colleges to facilitate the transition of recent veterans to state institutions of higher education.

Existing law provides for the licensure and regulation of public and private cemeteries and for the disposition of human remains. Existing law requires cemeteries to keep specific records relating to the disposition of human remains, including orders for the removal of interred remains. Existing law authorizes those records to be kept in original form or by photocopy, microfilm, microfiche, laser disc, or any other method that can produce an accurate reproduction of the original record.

This bill would authorize the records to be kept on compact disc or electronic file and would eliminate the express authorization for the records to be kept on laser disc.
