An act to amend Section 1775 of the Education Code, relating to libraries.

AB 698, as introduced, Chávez. School libraries: county superintendent of schools: report.
Existing law requires a county superintendent of schools, when he or she has assumed responsibility for the establishment of a library or the performance of library services, to submit a specified annual report on or before August 31 to the State Department of Education on the condition of the libraries under his or her supervision.
This bill instead would require that specified annual report to be submitted to the department on or before September 30.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 Section 1775 of the Education Code is amended to read:

1775.
 Whenever If the county superintendent of schools assumes responsibility for the establishment of a library or the performance of library services pursuant to this article, the county superintendent shall, on or before August 31st, in each year, superintendent of schools, on or before September 30, shall annually report to the State Department of Education department on the condition of the libraries under his supervision, or her supervision for the year ending June 30th preceding. The reports of the county superintendent shall, in addition to other matters deemed expedient by the librarian and the superintendent, contain such of schools shall contain, in addition to other matters deemed expedient by the librarian and the county superintendent of schools, those statistical and other information as is deemed desirable by the State Department of Education. department.
