BILL NUMBER: AB 2580 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Fox FEBRUARY 21, 2014 An act to amend Section 2034 of the Business and Professions Code, relating to healing arts. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 2580, as introduced, Fox. Medical licenses. Existing law, the Medical Practice Act, provides for the licensure and regulation of medical practitioners by the Medical Board of California in the Department of Consumer Affairs. The board may determine that an applicant for a physician and surgeon's certificate has satisfied specified requirements if, among other things, he or she has not been the subject of a disciplinary action by a medical licensing authority. A "medical licensing authority," for purposes of the act, is defined as an officer, board, commission, or department of another state upon whose certificate a reciprocity certificate may be issued. This bill would make a technical, nonsubstantive change to those provisions. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 2034 of the Business and Professions Code is amended to read: 2034. "Medical licensing authority" refers toanyan officer, board, commission, or department of another state upon whose certificate a reciprocity certificate may be issued.
