BILL NUMBER: AB 2462 INTRODUCED
BILL TEXT
INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Buchanan
FEBRUARY 19, 2010
An act relating to school attendance.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
AB 2462, as introduced, Buchanan. School attendance.
Existing law requires the governing board of a school district to
establish an open enrollment policy for residents within the
district, except as specified. The policy is required to include
specified elements, including a selection policy for a school that
receives requests for admission in excess of the capacity of the
school that ensures that selection of pupils to enroll in the school
is made through a random, unbiased process that prohibits an
evaluation of whether a pupil should be enrolled based upon his or
her academic or athletic performance. Existing law provides various
exceptions to this requirement.
This bill would state the Legislature's intent to enact
legislation relating to intradistrict school transfers.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Legislature to enact
legislation relating to intradistrict school transfers.
