   An act to amend Section 485 of the Penal Code, relating to theft.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   AB 1542, as introduced, Waldron. Theft: lost property.
   Existing law makes it a crime for a person who finds lost property
under circumstances that give him or her knowledge of or means of
inquiry as to the true owner, and who appropriates the property to
his or her own use, or to the use of another person not entitled
thereto, without first making reasonable and just efforts to find the
owner and to restore the property to him or her.
   This bill would make a technical, nonsubstantive change to that
provision.
   Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  SECTION 1.  Section 485 of the Penal Code is amended to read:
   485.   One   Every person  who finds
lost property under circumstances  which   that
 give him  or her  knowledge of or means of inquiry as
to the true owner, and who appropriates  such  
the  property to his  or her  own use, or to the use of
another person not entitled thereto, without first making reasonable
and just efforts to find the owner and to restore the property to
him  or her  , is guilty of theft.
