An act to amend Section 688 of the Penal Code, relating to crime.

AB 1496, as introduced, Gomez. Public offenses: detention.
Existing law provides that a person charged with a public offense may not be subjected, before conviction, to any more restraint than is necessary for his or her detention to answer the charge.
This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to that provision.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:


SECTION 1.

 Section 688 of the Penal Code is amended to read:

688.
 No A person charged with a public offense may shall not be subjected, before conviction, to any more restraint than is necessary for his or her detention to answer the charge.
