WHEREAS, Sidney Lanier High School in the San Antonio | ||
Independent School District is celebrating its 100th anniversary in | ||
2023; and | ||
WHEREAS, The campus traces its origins to 1915, when it was | ||
established as McKinley Elementary; named for American poet, | ||
author, and musician Sidney Lanier, it became Lanier Junior School | ||
in 1923, when the junior school system was first implemented; in | ||
1929, the school expanded to include both junior high and high | ||
school grade levels, and it remained a six-year campus until its | ||
junior high students transferred to a new school in 1969; Sidney | ||
Lanier High School's current campus opened in 1975; and | ||
WHEREAS, Today, the school provides students in grades 9 | ||
through 12 with a rigorous curriculum and a broad range of | ||
extracurricular activities; the campus benefits from the able | ||
leadership of its principal, Dr. Ricky Flores; and | ||
WHEREAS, For the past century, Sidney Lanier High School has | ||
provided its students with a strong educational foundation on which | ||
to build, and it has made a positive and lasting difference in the | ||
lives of generations of San Antonio residents; now, therefore, be | ||
it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd | ||
Called Session, hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Sidney | ||
Lanier High School and extend to the school's faculty, staff, and | ||
students sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Sidney Lanier High School as an expression of high | ||
regard by the Texas Senate. |
