| WHEREAS, Sidney Lanier High School in the San Antonio | ||
| Independent School District is celebrating its 100th anniversary | ||
| in 2023; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The campus traces its origins to 1915, when it was | ||
| established as McKinley Elementary; named for American poet, | ||
| author, and musician Sidney Lanier, it became Lanier Junior | ||
| School in 1923, when the junior school system was first | ||
| implemented; in 1929, the school expanded to include both junior | ||
| high and high school grade levels, and it remained a six-year | ||
| campus until its junior high students transferred to a new school | ||
| in 1969; Sidney Lanier High School's current campus opened in | ||
| 1975; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Today, the school provides students in grades 9 | ||
| through 12 with a rigorous curriculum and a broad range of | ||
| extracurricular activities; the campus benefits from the able | ||
| leadership of its principal, Dr. Ricky Flores; and | ||
| WHEREAS, For the past century, Sidney Lanier High School | ||
| has provided its students with a strong educational foundation on | ||
| which to build, and it has made a positive and lasting difference | ||
| in the lives of generations of San Antonio residents; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
| Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 100th | ||
| anniversary of Sidney Lanier High School and extend to the | ||
| school's faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes for the | ||
| future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
| prepared for Sidney Lanier High School as an expression of high | ||
| regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
