Summary

The purpose of this bill is to provide a statutory framework through which the Legislature may appropriate funds to match the amount of federal funds used to supplement the provision of scientifically research-based alternative language education programs for limited English proficient (LEP) students in accordance with policies and procedures adopted by the state board. The level of appropriation suggested is approximately equal to the level of 2008-2009 federal funds available for the program based on the number of 2007-2008 LEP students ($274 x 2336 LEP students = $640,064.
