HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 102
Commending Olive Chamblin Brown.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 12, 2024
 

WHEREAS, Olive Chamblin Brown, an esteemed faith leader who has served her community for many years, was named archbishop of International Christian Ministries, Inc., of Chesterfield in 2023; and

WHEREAS, after attending Richmond City Public Schools and the former Van De Vyver Catholic School in Richmond, Olive Brown earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and social work and master's degree in divinity from Virginia Union University; she would also later receive an honorary doctor of theology degree from Trinity Bible College; and

WHEREAS, in 1993, Olive Brown was consecrated to the office of bishop and founded the International Christian Ministries, Inc. (ICM); later, she was promoted to chief apostle and with ICM established churches in and throughout the Commonwealth and North Carolina and as far north as Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, as the presiding prelate of ICM, Olive Brown has led an ever-expanding congregation that has purchased several acres of land in Chesterfield County to accommodate the ministry's growth and needs; and

WHEREAS, Olive Brown has published eight books and other publications to share her wisdom and understanding of the Bible and its teachings, while also raising five children who are all actively involved in ministry; and

WHEREAS, Olive Brown has assisted families in need over the years through her work with various agencies and organizations, including Virginia Commonwealth University, what is now the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, and the American Red Cross, and as founder and chief executive officer of Metro-Richmond Community Development Corporation; and

WHEREAS, Olive Brown's myriad efforts to serve others include raising awareness of human trafficking, working with the Yeshua's House domestic violence shelter, spearheading a school supplies and clothing drive for students at George Wythe High School in Richmond, and sponsoring a Christmas toy drive for the youth of Petersburg; and

WHEREAS, Olive Brown has been a positive and transformative influence in countless lives, earning the respect and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Olive Chamblin Brown hereby be commended for being named archbishop of International Christian Ministries, Inc., of Chesterfield; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Olive Chamblin Brown as an expression of the House of Delegates' high regard for her contributions to the Commonwealth.
