Commending Joshua Grainer.

WHEREAS, Joshua Grainer, managing director and winemaker for RdV Vineyards in Delaplane, attained the title Master of Wine from the Institute of Masters of Wine in 2023; and

WHEREAS, Joshua Grainer discovered his love for wine while traveling through Italy in his early twenties, igniting a passion that would chart the course of his life; and

WHEREAS, after developing his abilities as a viticulturist in the United States, France, and Australia, Joshua Grainer joined RdV Vineyards for their inaugural vintage in 2008; and

WHEREAS, over the past 15 years, Joshua Grainer has helped to grow RdV Vineyards into the world-class, highly acclaimed vineyard that it is today; and

WHEREAS, to receive the title Master of Wine, Joshua Grainer had to pass both theory and practical exams that evaluated his understanding and comprehension of all aspects of wine, as well as write a research paper; and

WHEREAS, Joshua Grainer was named a Master of Wine after the successful submission and review of his research paper titled, "Evaluating Phenology Shifts of Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, and Merlot in Virginia by the Mid-21st Century"; and

WHEREAS, Joshua Grainer was among the first two Masters of Wine to receive the distinguished appellation in 2023, the 70th year of the Master of Wine examination; and

WHEREAS, Joshua Grainer is the first Virginian to be honored as a Master of Wine and one of only approximately 400 other viticulturists across the world to hold this prestigious title; and

WHEREAS, Joshua Grainer's accomplishment is a testament to his commitment to his craft and his love for the art of wine and has brought great renown to the winemaking region of the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Joshua Grainer, managing director and winemaker for RdV Vineyards, for being named a Master of Wine by the Institute of Masters of Wine; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Joshua Grainer as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his achievement and appreciation for his contributions to the Commonwealth.
