SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 61
WHEREAS, The prosperity of the Lone Star State has been
greatly influenced by family farming and ranching, and the Kraus
family of Gillespie County have been officially recognized as
heirs to this proud tradition with the acceptance of the Kraus
Farm into the state's Family Land Heritage Program in 2023; and

WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture,
this program honors farms and ranches that have been in
continuous agricultural operation by the same family for a
century or more; the Kraus Farm is currently owned and operated
by Jerome and Genevieve Kraus; and

WHEREAS, In 1855, Christian Kraus emigrated from Germany
to Fredericksburg, and he married Anna Maria Hofacker shortly
thereafter; he established Kraus Farm in 1873, and the family
resided on the property while raising cattle, goats, sheep, and
chickens and cultivating wheat and hay; his two sons, John and
Michael, eventually took over the farm's operation, and in the
1930s, it was passed down to Michael's children and their
families; the farm was transferred to Jerome Kraus in the 1980s,
and today, it continues to produce hay and cattle; and

WHEREAS, In preserving their property as a working farm,
the Krauses are making their own contribution to their family's
legacy, and it is indeed fitting that they be honored for their
outstanding stewardship; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Kraus
family on the induction of the Kraus Farm into the Texas Department
of Agriculture Family Land Heritage Program and extend to them
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for the Kraus family as an expression of high regard
  from the Texas Senate.
