R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The members of the 1957 and 1958 baseball teams of
  L. D. Bell High School were inducted into the Hurst-Euless-Bedford
  Sports Hall of Fame on February 16, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, Since 1995, the H-E-B Sports Hall of Fame has paid
  tribute to individuals and teams who have made a positive impact in
  the community through sports-related endeavors; the hall was
  created to honor successful teams and athletes as well as
  officials, administrators, trainers, medical practitioners, media
  figures, and others who have distinguished themselves with their
  achievements; and
         WHEREAS, The 1957 L. D. Bell baseball team won the district
  championship while playing in Conference 1A, and a year later the
  1958 team claimed the district crown against 2A competition; these
  triumphs represented the initial titles for the Blue Raiders in
  baseball and also marked the first time in school history that Bell
  teams collected back-to-back district championships in any sport;
  and
         WHEREAS, The determined Bell High players who contributed to
  this achievement included Rodney McGrew, Al Eubanks, Tom Elliott,
  Don McRay, Jimmy Clowers, Ronald Clark, Marshall Baker, Charles
  Standard, Gerald Pope, Richard Clark, Kenneth Welch, H. C. Sibley,
  Robert Fugua, Pete Spradlin, Steve Runyon, Tommy Nesbit, Don
  Cowart, Jimmy Owens, Gene Birch, Reed Hogland, Edward Garnels, Jim
  Arnett, and Terry Howard; the teams were guided by head coach John
  Polzi and benefited from the assistance of team managers Nelson
  Pope, Mike Conway, and Jack Haynes; and
         WHEREAS, The standard of excellence set by the 1957 and 1958
  Blue Raiders baseball teams inspired numerous future athletes at
  Bell High School, and these squads are indeed deserving of this
  prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the 1957 and 1958
  baseball teams of L. D. Bell High School on their induction into the
  Hurst-Euless-Bedford Sports Hall of Fame; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
  for the former teammates as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
