R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo is
  celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2024; and
         WHEREAS, The organization traces its origins to 1934, when
  Chanslor E. Weymouth, Cal Farley, and Roy Pool established the
  Maverick Boys Club at a building donated by Mary E. Bivins; from
  1934 through 1982, the facility was supervised by director Ralph
  Dykeman, and in 1983, it opened its doors to girls for the first
  time; today the club serves more than 1,000 young people every year,
  equipping at-risk youth with the tools they need to reach their full
  potential and to become engaged and productive members of society;
  and
         WHEREAS, Since 1952, the club has operated from the Maverick
  building on South Lincoln Street; working in partnership with the
  United Way of Amarillo & Canyon and other organizations, it
  provides programs in the areas of character and leadership,
  education and career, health and life skills, the arts, and sports,
  fitness, and recreation; the club's offerings also include computer
  science, peer support, scouting, and 4-H initiatives; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout its rich history, the Maverick Boys &
  Girls Club of Amarillo has remained faithful to its mission of
  providing young Texans with a safe and nurturing environment in
  which to build healthy relationships, confidence, and self-esteem,
  and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing the organization on this
  notable milestone; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 90th
  anniversary of the Maverick Boys & Girls Club of Amarillo and extend
  to all those associated with the organization sincere best wishes
  for continued success with their important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the club as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
