WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the | ||
passing of Jim Brunjes of Lubbock on July 30, 2022, at the age | ||
of 75; and | ||
WHEREAS, The son of Charles and Dorothy Nell Brunjes of Waco, | ||
Jim Brunjes was born on December 13, 1946, and he grew up with the | ||
companionship of three siblings, Mickey, Jean, and Jane; he | ||
attended Texas A&M University, where he earned a bachelor's degree | ||
in mathematics and a master's degree in statistics; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Brunjes taught junior high before joining the | ||
U.S. military and NASA to work on missile projects; he later held | ||
leadership positions at multiple universities, including a tenure | ||
with the internal audit department at Texas A&M, and he served for a | ||
time as vice president of systems at Southwest Airlines; and | ||
WHEREAS, In 1991, Mr. Brunjes joined Texas Tech University as | ||
vice president for administration, and eight years later, he was | ||
named vice chancellor and chief financial officer of the Texas Tech | ||
University System; his responsibilities included overseeing the | ||
system's nearly $2 billion budget, managing numerous offices, and | ||
serving as treasurer of the Texas Tech Foundation Board of | ||
Directors; under his guidance, the system's endowment grew by | ||
nearly $750 million, and he also played an instrumental role in | ||
establishing the Mentor Tech program and securing funding for | ||
improvements to campus facilities; he retired in 2017, after two | ||
and a half decades of distinguished service; and | ||
WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family, Mr. Brunjes shared a | ||
rewarding relationship with his wife, Marie, and he took great | ||
pride in his children, Jennifer, Todd, and Greg, as well as his five | ||
grandchildren, Ben, Laura, Anna, Will, and Jack; and | ||
WHEREAS, Although Jim Brunjes is deeply missed, he will | ||
forever be remembered with great admiration for his professional | ||
achievements and for the myriad ways he gave of himself to benefit | ||
others; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jim Brunjes and extend | ||
sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jim | ||
Brunjes. | ||
