relating to the authority of political subdivisions to establish | ||
election precincts. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 42.061, Election Code, is amended to | ||
read as follows: | ||
(a) The governing body of a political subdivision other than | ||
a county may |
||
ordered by an authority of the political subdivision. | ||
(c) An election precinct established for an election | ||
ordered by a city authority may not divide a county election | ||
precinct except as necessary to follow the city's boundary. | ||
(d) If a county precinct is divided according to Section | ||
42.061(c)the City shall maintain the informational integrity of the | ||
county precincts by submitting the voter ID numbers of those who | ||
cast votes to the county elections office by county precinct as well | ||
as the election precinct that was created under this section. | ||
SECTION 2. Section 42.0615, Election Code, is amended to | ||
read as follows: | ||
(2) Provide the voter registrar with a map of an | ||
adopted boundary change in a format that is compatible with the | ||
mapping format used by the registrar's office. | ||
(3) Provide the voter registrar with a corresponding | ||
list of voters in each of the county precincts that have been | ||
divided. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
