BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 33, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 33.2055 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 33.2055. HEAT STRESS SAFETY POLICY REQUIRED FOR | ||
OUTDOOR ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES. (a) A school district or | ||
open-enrollment charter school that offers an extracurricular | ||
athletic activity that includes outdoor practices or competitions | ||
shall adopt a heat stress safety policy for outdoor athletic | ||
activities to protect student athletes from heat-related injury. | ||
The policy must include criteria for taking appropriate protective | ||
measures based on the wet-bulb globe temperature at the location of | ||
the activity. | ||
(b) Any organization, company, or other entity using a | ||
school district or open-enrollment charter school facility for an | ||
outdoor athletic activity shall comply with the district's or | ||
school's policy adopted under Subsection (a). | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the | ||
last day of the legislative session. |
