A senate RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE North Myrtle Beach Women's club UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS fiftieth ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND north myrtle beach women's club FOR ITS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE north strand COMMUNITY AND THE PEOPLE AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize the North Myrtle Beach Women's Club as it celebrates this important milestone; and

Whereas, in 1973, twelve women from North Myrtle Beach formed "The Plant and Pamper Garden Club." Within a few short months, they realized that their main interest was not gardening but rather engagement in and service to their community. They voted unanimously to become a women's club with a goal of community service and involvement; and

Whereas, the NMBWC first goals were to help facilitate a new library for North Myrtle Beach, a community center for the city, and a new North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad; and

Whereas, the club has grown to a membership of over seventy-five members representing all age groups from different areas of the city and county; and

Whereas, in 2010, the NMBWC proudly celebrated forty years of service. North Myrtle Beach mayor and club member, Marilyn Hatley, presented the club president, Juliet Casper, with a formal declaration proclaiming January 5th in North Myrtle Beach to be "North Myrtle Beach Woman's Club Day"; and

Whereas, at the North Myrtle Beach Chamber Annual Dinner in January 2010, the NMBWC received the prestigious "Outstanding Non-Profit of the Year" award; and

Whereas, in April 2014, members attended the 116th Annual GFWC-SC state convention in Columbia and brought home eighteen club awards and ten individual awards, representing the most state awards received in the club's history; and

Whereas, the NMBWC's fundraising efforts have been impressive and impactful. Thousands of dollars have been donated by the club through the Struttin' on the Strand local talent event, yard and attic sales, pancake breakfasts and dinners, barbecues, fashion shows, little Miss and Mister pageants, auctions, Heart Walks, Relay for Life teams, food booths at the Blue Crab festival and other festivals, book sales, the annual Christmas Tour of Homes, the Purses with a Purpose event, the Domestic Violence Walk, and many more events; and

Whereas, the club has also joined with other community, State, and national efforts to further impact and improve their community, including a scholarship program for high school students, a dental program for underprivileged children of North Myrtle Beach, the Horry County Heart Association, United Way of Horry County, the American Cancer Society, Special Olympics, Keep North Myrtle Beach Clean, the YMCA, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, North Strand Helping Hand, Hurricane Andrew Relief fund, Friendship House of Myrtle Beach, Rape Crisis Center, CASA, NMB Public Safety, NMB Humane Society, North Myrtle Beach Schools, Educational Scholarships, Katie's Project, Teen Angel, Sea Haven, Inc., Christmas for Seniors project, and through sending care packages to soldiers; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment of the North Myrtle Beach Women's Club to serving the people and the State of South Carolina. Their impact has been far-reaching and extraordinary.  Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the North Myrtle Beach Women's Club upon the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary and commend the North Myrtle Beach Women's Club for its many years of dedicated service to the North Strand community and the people and the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the members of the North Myrtle Beach Women's Club.
