       AN ACT to amend the mental hygiene law, in relation to limiting the work
         week and double shifts of employees
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Section 5.05 of the mental hygiene law is amended by adding
    2  a new subdivision (e) to read as follows:
    3    (E)  THE  COMMISSIONER  OF MENTAL HEALTH, THE COMMISSIONER OF DEVELOP-
    4  MENTAL DISABILITIES AND THE COMMISSIONER  OF  ALCOHOLISM  AND  SUBSTANCE
    5  ABUSE  SERVICES  SHALL  ESTABLISH REGULATIONS TO LIMIT THE WORK WEEK FOR
    6  ALL EMPLOYEES OF SUCH  OFFICES,  INCLUDING  EMPLOYEES  OF  PROVIDERS  OF
    7  SERVICES FOR SUCH OFFICES AS DEFINED IN SUBDIVISION FIVE OF SECTION 1.03
    8  OF  THIS  CHAPTER,  TO SIXTY HOURS. ADDITIONALLY, THE COMMISSIONER SHALL
    9  ESTABLISH REGULATIONS TO PREVENT SUCH EMPLOYEES FROM WORKING CONSECUTIVE
   10  DOUBLE SHIFTS AND FROM WORKING MORE THAN  TWO  DOUBLE  SHIFTS  WITHIN  A
   11  CONSECUTIVE SEVEN DAY WORK WEEK.
   12    S  2.  This  act  shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall
   13  have become a law; provided, however, that  effective  immediately,  the
   14  addition,  amendment  and/or  repeal of any rule or regulation necessary
   15  for the implementation of this act on its effective date are  authorized
   16  and directed to be made and completed on or before such effective date.
