STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 2115--A 2017-2018 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY January 17, 2017 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. ORTIZ, HARRIS, MOYA -- read once and referred to the Committee on Local Governments -- reported and referred to the Committee on Ways and Means -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the executive law and the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to requiring members of the division of state police and police officers of the police department of the city of New York to be trained and retrained in cardiopulmonary resusci- tation The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Short title. This act shall be known and may be cited as 2 "Briana's law". 3 § 2. The executive law is amended by adding a new section 214-e to 4 read as follows: 5 § 214-e. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and retraining. 1. 6 For the purposes of this section, "cardiopulmonary resuscitation" shall 7 have the same meaning as provided in subdivision six of section six 8 hundred twenty-one of the general business law. 9 2. Each member of the division of state police shall be: 10 (a) trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation during the training proc- 11 ess to become a trooper; 12 (b) retrained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation every two years; and 13 (c) required to demonstrate the satisfactory completion of training in 14 cardiopulmonary resuscitation. 15 § 3. Subdivision b of section 14-165 of the administrative code of the 16 city of New York, as added by local law number 137 of the city of New 17 York for the year 2016, is amended to read as follows: 18 b. Training. The department shall [identify when] require all police 19 officer trainees to complete training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation 20 and automated external defibrillation [training is appropriate] prior to EXPLANATION--Matter in italics (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [] is old law to be omitted. The curriculum 4 of such training and re-training shall, where practicable, be consistent 5 with standards developed by a nationally recognized organization or 6 association. 7 § 4. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall 8 have become a law.
